In a traditional classroom, students follow the pace of the curriculum. The teacher presents a series of lessons and assignments, and it's the responsibility of each individual enrolled in the class to keep up. This time-honored approach to learning may provide structure and motivation for students of all ages, but that doesn't mean it's always the best model for education or training. Reference
As an e-learning author, I have started the journey of preparing resources that support self paced learning.
Self paced learning has a number of advantages one being that it allows the learners latitude to repeat the content as many times as possible while exploring all the resources at their disposal.
However use of e-learning resources that support self paced learning requires basic technical skills to interact with them comfortably .
